Nets found it tough this weekend with a double header game weekend. Saturday's clash was with the new and much improved Birmingham Athletics in the Patrons Cup and then travelled to Stockport to Face the Division 4 team Stockport Falcons in the National Cup.

With still a few new players yet to arrive the Nets ran out of gas mid-way through the 4th quarter against the 12 man strong Birmingham team and finally lost the game 73 - 52 but it was very close until late in the 4th. Steve Flanagan top scored with 13 and Steve Roberts chipped in with 10.

Sunday was a tough game for the Nets as they only travelled with 7 players and again the game was close all the way through. Nets were delivered a crushing blow when Coach Matt Weedall fouled out with 2 mins gone in the 3rd quarter and then halfway through the 3rd lost our new Spanish recruit Pao to 5 fouls. This meant the Nets struggled through with only 5 players for the rest of the game. Game was tied at 89 a piece with 11 seconds left when Stockport hit a tough 3 pointer with Rich Parker challenging and the Nets could not then get a shot off to try and tie the game - the it ended 92 - 89.

The 2008 / 9 NEWI Nets season is just around the corner and now all the dates have been added to the website including the pre-season games.

The Nets will be facing the Cheshire Jets in their annual warm up game on 14th September at NEWI's home court with a 5pm tip off.

Entry is £5 for adults and £3 for children. This is an opportunity for the Jets fans to get a glimpse of their new squad ahead of the season opener.

As usual the Jets should be heavily followed by their fans so it should make for a good atmosphere.

Nets will be playing host to the 2007/8 Div 2 Champs the Cardiff Celts in a warm up game.

The game will take place at NEWI sports centre 20th September and the time is to be confirmed... so watch this space.

The Nets are going to be having a club open day on Sunday 7th September at the NEWI sports centre starting at 10am.

The aim of the day is for all people involved in club from players, parents, fans and club officials to 'meet & greet' and get a chance to talk about the up coming season at all levels.

The day will be set out as follows with a number of games:

10am - 11am - The Rookies & Under 16's
11am - 12pm - Under 18's
12pm - 1pm - Seniors

After the games there will be a BBQ along with a stand selling the latest AND1 basketball merchandise.

Nets will be having open try outs for all players interested in playing this season.

The try outs will be held on 1st September at NEWI sports centre from 7pm - 10pm.

This will enable the coaching staff to get a look at any potential players in various drills and then finally in game situations.

If interested please come along.

The Nets will be going into the 2008/9 season without 3 of it's players from last season.

Ryan Chambers, Andy White and Kostas Psarris will not be suiting up for the team this year as they will all be moving onto to pastures new!!!

Ryan Chambers will be making his way back down to his home town of Cardiff.

Andy White will be moving down to London with his girlfriend Becky due to new jobs.

Kostas Psarris has decided to move back to Greece to carry out his National Service in the Army for 12 months.

Everyone in the NEWI organisation would like to thank the boys for help over the years and wish them good luck on their new journeys and they can come back any time.

The Nets are currently preparing for the new season and are looking to strengthen the squad.

The Nets are particularly interested in people you could help strengthen the 1, 2 and 3 man positions but will also look at any other positions.

Currently the team have a session on a Monday evening at NEWI Sports Centre from 8pm - 10pm and the cost is £3.

So if interested come and have a run and a chat with the Coaching staff.

The NEWI Nets website is back and getting ready for the new 2008/9 season.

Due to the Web Site owner doing a house renovation (which meant no internet connection!!!) the website was unable to be updated but now that is finished all is back to normal!

So apologise for the lack of updating being done on the website but everything will be back to normal this year!
